When these clients first contacted us their requirement was for a traditional Georgian style replacement property!
Our Design Studio followed our client’s design brief and presented the initial proposal to them. It met with their approval so a Pre Application meeting with the Planners was arranged. A surprising outcome from the meeting was that a more contemporary design would be supported so we literally went back to the drawing board to come up with a modern house to suit both our client’s requirements and that the planners would approve.
Paramount to our client’s requirements was for their dream home to be Eco friendly, using sustainable materials and renewable energy. We assisted them to obtain a ‘U’ value of 0.1 W/m²K through the external walls which were constructed using single skin high density concrete blocks with high performance PIR insulation on the outer face and finished with a thin STO render, achieving Passive House standards. It also ensured excellent thermal mass properties with this type of construction.
Other high end materials such as Internorm triple glazed windows and doors which achieve a ‘U’ value of 0.8 W/m²K and structurally insulated panels (SIPS) for the roof ensured the dwelling meets the high standards required.
Air permeability testing is a crucial phase of any build as the result will significantly affect the energy performance. This dwelling achieved an air leakage result of well under 1m3/hm² satisfying the Passive House requirements.
A reputable local network builder in conjunction with D&M Homes was contracted by the client to construct the dwelling to the highest standards of workmanship essential for this type of project.
