We first met with these clients at the Homebuilding & Renovating show at Shepton Mallet back in 2016 and they had identified a building plot with the benefit of outline planning permission.
Although there was an initial delay due to access and boundary problems once these had been overcome the design process could begin. This started with a visit to our offices to create the design brief. Our clients main requirements being for an open plan kitchen, dining and living area with lots of light together with a home office.
A large aluminium roof lantern over the dining area together with a pair of matching bi-fold doors provides the natural light that the clients were looking for. The home office was incorporated in the Attic area so as not to compromise the size and layout of the rooms on both the ground and first floors.
The Reserved Matters application was straight forward with an approval being issued so was followed swiftly by the discharge of the planning conditions.
Once the Building Regulation application was submitted we went out to our local network of builders for a price to construct the weathertight shell leaving our clients to self manage the internal and finishing trades.
The tenders were received within six weeks and a start date was set for August 2018.
The clients were so impressed with the chosen builder they decided to let them carry out most of the internal trades as well although their son-in-law carried out the electrical installation and the clients decided to do the decorating themselves.
“Albeit Dan and Beverley were our main contact personnel, we are sure that other support staff are equally impressive in what is clearly a ‘team effort’.”
