Building Regulations Changes
Our Architectural Technician Jackie looks at the changes to the Building Regulations
Hi I’m Jackie, Architectural Technician at Design & Materials with 25 years’ service.
Changes in legislation means the Code for Sustainable Homes has been abolished* and the energy requirements for a new dwelling are now covered by Part L of the Building Regulations. This may have an impact for some self-builders but, as we always look to exceed the Building Regulations, it hasn’t affected our clients. For some time now our clients’ designs have been comfortably meeting the new regulations without the need for add-ons like solar panels or heat pumps. We achieve this through high levels of insulation and an airtight structure.
*Check this with your local council as some authorities seem to be lagging behind.
